China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and five other departments have released the 2026 work plan for the "Sailing Overseas" action plan, a government initiative to boost China's cultural trade with other countries.

The first China cultural exhibition tour across Mediterranean countries, submitted by the Xiamen Free Trade Zone's National Cultural Export Base, was selected as one of the plan's supported projects.

From April to May this year, the first China cultural exhibition tour across Mediterranean countries was held in Morocco and Spain, showcasing more than 1,000 kinds of cultural products, including books, creative items, and intangible cultural heritage crafts, bringing Chinese culture closer to audiences around the Mediterranean in richer and more diverse ways.

At the China-themed exhibition area of the Rabat International Book Fair in Morocco, readers crowded around to browse books, while Chinese cultural products drew many visitors to stop and take photos. Chinese-language textbooks were in constant demand, and a Chinese calligraphy interactive zone enabled visitors to experience the beauty of Chinese characters up close.

The Xiamen FTZ's National Cultural Export Base has twice been ranked first among functional-zone national cultural export bases by the MOC. It has cultivated 59 national key cultural export enterprises and 15 key projects, with 12 selected for the "Sailing Overseas" action plan. Its exports now span book copyrights, gaming, audiovisual products, film and TV copyrights, and bonded art trading.
