New measures to support and encourage Taiwan compatriots to participate in crew training and apply for crew certificates in Xiamen were recently introduced.
As of September 2023, Xiamen had completed four batches of training and issued certifications to 38 Taiwan youths and managerial-level crew members.
Taiwan compatriots are encouraged to participate in cruise and passenger ship crew training, special passenger ship crew training, management or operational level crew supplementary training, and yacht operation training in a more flexible and efficient manner, and to obtain relevant crew certificates in Xiamen.
In June, the Xiamen Free Trade Zone launched the Chinese mainland's first cross-Strait cruise talent joint training program.
This program provides training for Taiwan youths on the Chinese mainland and helps them obtain a Chinese mainland crew suitability certificate. A Chinese mainland seafarer dispatching company will also help them find employment.
The two students from Taiwan who traveled to Xiamen for the inaugural training session successfully obtained their seafarer certificates and were assigned to intern on the cruise ship Zhaoshang Yidun.
