The city of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province is on the move to create an optimal business environment through the rollout of innovative measures, which are reported to have brought convenience and big benefits to local enterprises.
At a cross-border trade operations center in the Xiamen Area of the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone for JD – China's e-commerce giant – imported milk powder, wine and cosmetics from all over the world are stocked on the shelves and each day workers package them for delivery.
A manager there said that as a key port on China's southeast coast, Xiamen has always maintained a competitive edge as a logistics corridor with sea, air and multi-modal transport channels.
But he said that a series of initiatives undertaken by the port regulatory authorities to ensure stability and improve overall efficiency were the "golden key" to the rapid growth of business there.
Li Wulong, deputy general manager of the center, said that during last year's Nov 11 shopping gala its daily order volume exceeded 100,000 items for the first time – and by the end of last year, cumulative shipments had exceeded 2.75 million parcels, an increase of nearly 20 percent year-on-year.
Thanks to multi-modal transport and efficient and convenient customs clearances, the operations center has developed into a cross-border e-commerce warehouse integrating JD International's central warehouse and self-operated warehouse.
What's more, with the joint efforts of Xiamen Customs and the administrative committee of Xiamen Area of China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone, cross-border e-commerce companies have greatly reduced their transportation times and are experiencing more efficient custom clearance.
Among the measures rolled out in the Regulations on Optimizing the Business Environment of Xiamen Special Economic Zone, some 21 are reckoned to be the first of their kind to be introduced in the country.
Chen Yiqi, founder of new energy vehicle manufacturer Tuyou Auto, said the company chose to register in the Xiamen Area of China (Fujian) Pilot FTZ because of its attractive policies and business-friendly environment.
