A gathering of academics, experts and business people in the integrated circuits sector – as well as heads of local financial institutions – recently took place at Gaoqi Park in the Xiamen Area of the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone, or the Xiamen FTZ.
Xiamen, the port city in East China's Fujian province, is known to be a place where the integrated circuits – or IC – sector is thriving.

Wang Xinsheng, from the Harbin Institute of Technology, shared his views at the meeting on the performance of higher education institutions in the commercialization of scientific research achievements and the training of personnel, based on case studies he has conducted.
In recent years, the Xiamen FTZ has incubated the IC design industry, developing it in Gaoqi Park from scratch. Currently, there are 214 IC enterprises based there. They generated an output value of 2.08 billion yuan ($296.4 million) in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 20.4 percent.
The park has cultivated a group of leading players in the sector – such as Xiamen Xfabsemi Co and Xiamen Eochip Co – and it has grown into a thriving industrial cluster of IC designers.
Zhou Mou, head of the administration bureau of Gaoqi Park, gave a briefing on the policies supporting IC innovation and development.
Eochip chairman Li Jinghu said the event had enabled him to learn more about the policy support for his company, which would boost the company's recruitment of staff going forwards.
Last June, the Xiamen FTZ's administrative committee rolled out a group of measures to further promote an IC innovation and entrepreneurship platform with the Huli district of Xiamen city.
More improvements were recently made to the initiative.
