The "Xiamen-Sao Paulo" BRICS air cargo route which was launched on Feb 10 has seen fruitful results in the past half year and greatly bolstered Xiamen's imports and exports.

To date, 90 flights carrying 7,370 metric tons of imported and exported goods have flown the route.

The route has brought diverse kinds of products that are in demand in Brazil, including various cross-border e-commerce products, as well as many high value-added goods such as medical products and high-tech products.

To ensure smooth operations of the route, Xiamen Customs has taken measures to improve the clearance process.

"We have been making the most of preferential measures to improve the clearance efficiency of exported goods on the route. It takes only two hours at the soonest to finish the whole process from safety check to cargo loading. We will continuously optimize our regulatory process, promote foreign trade, and enhance the high-quality growth of the airside economy at Xiamen airport," said Chen Zhenlei, deputy head of the logistics supervision section at Xiamen airport customs.

Xiamen is currently striving to deepen economic and trade cooperation with other BRICS countries, and bilateral trade between them has been growing steadily.

According to official data, Xiamen's imports and exports with other BRICS countries surged 39.2 percent year-on-year to 66.12 billion yuan ($9.07 billion) from January to July. During the seven-month period, the city's exports to BRICS nations recorded 17.78 billion yuan, up 16.1 percent year-on-year, with imports rising 50.2 percent to 48.35 billion yuan.
