There have been an increasing number of cultural products and services from Xiamen making their way around the world in recent years.
The value of Xiamen's cultural imports and exports totaled 16.69 billion yuan ($2.34 billion) from January to November 2023, a year-on-year increase of 78.6 percent. The cultural services import and export value amounted to 9.69 billion yuan, a growth of approximately 6.1 times.
The national cultural export base in Xiamen Free Trade Zone is the first of its kind in China and the only one in Fujian province.
Situated in the Xiamen FTZ, an economic special zone that serves as a strategic location for exchanges with Taiwan, the base leverages its unique functional advantages to explore a path of coordinated development and facilitate the overseas expansion of high-quality cultural content.
The base's projects, including the "Chinese Publication Exhibition Tour in Southeast Asia", the "International Audiobook Platform", and the "First China-Latin America Culture Tour Exhibition", have been selected as part of the national action plan for foreign cultural trade.
Moreover, 14 enterprises and five projects have been included as key enterprises and projects for cultural export in the years 2023-2024.
