Xiamen is accelerating its efforts to support the export of the "new three" (new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products) and cultivate new growth drivers.
NEVs are classified as Class nine dangerous goods. Previously, Xiamen Port was not qualified to handle dangerous goods, but the volume of shipping exports in Xiamen has been increasing.
Through Xiamen's efforts, the port has quickly obtained the first "battery-powered vehicle" port dangerous goods operation certificate in Fujian.
It has also become the first general cargo terminal in Fujian that is qualified to handle NEV hoisting, thus opening up the province's first new path for the "packaged and bulk transport" of NEVs.
In the past, many terminals in Xiamen Port lacked the capacity to store refrigerated dangerous goods, and lithium battery products have strict temperature requirements during transportation and handling.
In response, the Xiamen Port Authority has planned and constructed four refrigerated dangerous goods container yards at Haitian Terminal, Songyu Terminal, International Container Terminal, and Ocean Gate Container Terminal.
The total area of these yards is 29,211 square meters, with a total investment of 86.81 million yuan ($12.06 million). Their service capacity exceeds 132,000 TEUs per year, and all of the facilities have now been put into use.
Meanwhile, the Xiamen Free Trade Zone Administration Committee, in conjunction with other departments, has issued the first national safety transport guidelines for containerized lithium battery energy storage systems.
