Xiamen, Fujian province recently signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with China COSCO Shipping Group, opening a new chapter of comprehensive cooperation between the two parties.

According to the agreement, both parties will leverage Xiamen Port's location advantage and COSCO's global supply chain resources and integration capabilities to seize national strategic opportunities.

They will promote the integrated development of the "Silk Road Maritime", strengthen Xiamen's role as an international shipping center, and strengthen industries relevant to COSCO. Together, they aim to build Xiamen into an international container hub port aligning with the Belt and Road Initiative and with global influence

Xiamen is an important city on the southeastern coast of China and is home to the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center, Xiamen Free Trade Zone, and Innovation Demonstration Zone. It also boasts comprehensive transportation hub advantages and a first-class business environment. By 2023, Xiamen Port's container throughput is expected to rank seventh in China and 13th globally.

COSCO first established a presence in Xiamen in 1993. Thanks to COSCO's efforts, Xiamen Ocean Gate Terminal, China's first fully automated terminal, has achieved an annual container throughput of 2.7 million TEUs.
