The 2024 Chinese Publication Exhibition Tour in Southeast Asia, a key project of the Xiamen Free Trade Zone's national cultural export base, was recently successfully held in Malaysia and Thailand.

The main venue was set in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in conjunction with the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair. It established a Chinese-themed exhibition area with the theme "Books as a Medium, Reading China Together", showcasing nearly 50 Chinese publishing institutions with books on an array of topics and thousands of copyrighted books.

The exhibition tour introduced the latest achievements of Chinese publishing to the outside world, ecnouraging readers in Southeast Asia to read books about China and learn about the country's development.

To further promote the internationalization of Chinese book copyrights, the exhibition organized publishing cooperation signing ceremonies, experience sharing sessions, and one-on-one copyright negotiations during the publishing matchmaking events held in both Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Over 300 tentative agreements on publishing and printing service copyright cooperation are expected to be reached through these exchange activities.

During the exhibition tour, the visiting delegation also conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges with cultural institutions such as Amarin Publishing Group in Thailand and the United Chinese School Committees' Association of Malaysia.

They engaged in activities such as seminars, friendly book donations, and on-site research on Southeast Asian publishing trade and educational cooperation markets. Agreements were reached in multiple areas including copyright trade, book exports, and textbook cooperation, leading to a high level of recognition from foreign counterparts.

The exhibition tour will also be held in Indonesia, the Philippines, and other locations in late September. The initiative aims to further promote Chinese publishing and Chinese culture in Southeast Asia, expanding the country’s influence in the region.
