The 2024 High-Level Symposium on Maritime Silk Road International Economics and Trade Arbitration, hosted by the China Maritime Arbitration Commission, was held in Xiamen on Sept 6.
The symposium brought together nearly 200 domestic and overseas participants from the business community and legal sectors.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Yu Jianlong, vice-chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and deputy director of the China Maritime Arbitration Commission, said that under the new circumstances his council would act.
He said it would strive to promote institutional innovation in economic and trade arbitration and to safeguard the sound development of international supply chains through the rule of law.
Yu suggested that foreign-related legal services should be based on the needs of business enterprises, should strengthen their service awareness, adhere to innovation-driven development, boost service capabilities and promote professional discussions to share best practice.
The Xiamen Liaison Unit of China Maritime Law Association Secretariat was inaugurated during the event.
Themed on the Maritime Silk Road, the symposium focused on the development of dispute resolution mechanisms for countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, exploring the establishment of a more exemplary regional arbitration cooperation mechanism.
The event not only delved into international arbitration issues, but also explored innovative practices in regional foreign-related legal services.
It's believed that through the symposium, consensus will be further consolidated, cooperation deepened and efforts combined to advance the improvement of regional dispute resolution mechanisms.
This in turn will contribute to the premium-quality development of Xiamen as the core area of the Maritime Silk Road.
