The National Development and Reform Commission recently released the list of national logistics hubs to be developed in 2024, with the Xiamen Airport Hub being included. In recent years, Xiamen has been making concerted efforts to develop its aviation logistics industry, boasting strong momentum in the development of the aviation industry and a number of significant achievements.
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is an important regional aviation hub along the southeast coast and a key trunk airport in China. It connects with 128 airports in 124 domestic and international cities, offering a global network of routes and highlighting its status as a pivotal hub.
Xiamen has implemented various supportive policies to accelerate the development of air cargo transportation, leading to a continuous increase in cargo throughput. In 2023, Xiamen Airport handled 314,000 metric tons of cargo, a 20-percent growth and ranking 12th nationwide. From January to September, the city opened seven new overseas all-cargo routes to cities such as Paris, Atlanta, and Dallas, achieving a cargo throughput of 272,000 tons – a 22.4-percent increase.
Xiamen also leads the nation in the aviation maintenance industry. It has gathered nine internationally renowned professional aviation maintenance enterprises, such as Taikoo (Xiamen) Aircraft Engineering Co Ltd, and formed the largest one-stop aviation maintenance base in the country.
After the Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport is put into operation, it will be able to accommodate an annual passenger throughput of 45 million people and a cargo throughput of 750,000 tons. This will greatly enhance the reach and logistical capacity of the Xiamen airport hub.
