Two B-type ultrasonic flaw detectors and accessories awaiting repair were transported to the Xiamen Free Trade Zone on Oct 29, where they will receive a two-week bonded repair service at Plexus (Xiamen) Co Ltd.

The goods are the first to benefit from the company's global bonded repair service for medical devices in the Xiamen FTZ and signify the official launch of the service, which is the first of its kind in China. The service previously only allowed for the repair of self-produced products.

Bonded repair refers to a practice in which enterprises within comprehensive bonded zones and other designated areas import goods for repair in a bonded manner, conduct testing and repairs within the zone, and then re-export the goods after completion. During this process, import duties and taxes are temporarily deferred.

Piloting the global bonded repair of medical devices has the potential to more deeply integrate domestic enterprises into the global high-end medical device industry chain and supply chain.

This initiative enhances the after-sales repair capabilities of domestically produced medical devices and provides more convenient after-sales service support for the overseas expansion of high-end domestic medical devices.

Currently, there are 13 enterprises in the Xiamen FTZ engaged in bonded repair services. From January to September, the total import and export value of bonded repair services in the Xiamen FTZ reached 121.7 billion yuan ($17 billion).
