Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal's railway dedicated line officially completed its rail connection on March 31, marking the completion of China's first "vertical shoreline" fully automated sea-rail intermodal railway line.
Located in the Haicang Port Area of the Xiamen Free Trade Zone, the project extends from the existing Haicang Railway Yard to the loading and unloading area of Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal. The construction includes a 1,564-meter railway dedicated line, additional loading and unloading yards, and expansion and renovation of the existing Haicang Railway Yard.
From the map, the dedicated railway line project is designed and constructed in a "vertical" orientation relative to the coastline, a first of its kind in China.
The integration of this railway line into the terminal operation area signifies the achievement of "zero-kilometer" connection between sea and rail transport. It eliminates the need for secondary operations from the ship to the terminal yard and then from the terminal yard to the railway station. Instead, it enables seamless integration of port sea-rail intermodal transportation.
As one of the first key projects in the integration development of national transportation and logistics, this project will enhance the construction of the Xiamen FTZ, lead cross-Strait trade, and strive to create incremental space by building a multi-dimensional shipping network. It will provide high-quality integrated transportation systems for the Haicang Port Area of Xiamen Port.
