Fourteen young foreigners from BRICS countries and Belt and Road countries completed a 19-day international cruise crew training program and passed the examination, receiving their international cruise crew certificates from the Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration.
Among them, 13 are from BRICS countries, making them the first group of foreign youths from BRICS nations to obtain such certifications in China.
The program adheres to international conventions while tailoring the curriculum to the practical needs of BRICS and Belt and Road countries. Course offerings were optimized with specialized practical modules, including international cruise management and service and intensive Chinese language training for international crew positions.
Li Yuanqian, an international student from Indonesia, said the training not only equipped her with relevant professional skills but also boosted her confidence in future career opportunities.
Last year, the Xiamen Free Trade Zone Administrative Committee, in collaboration with Fujian maritime authorities, piloted China's first program for training and certifying foreign seafarers using Chinese-language examinations.
Building on this initiative, several measures to support and encourage compatriots from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao as well as foreign nationals to participate in seafarer training and certification in Xiamen were introduced, establishing a university-industry alliance to enhance the international cruise crew training system.
