The Model Contract for the Maritime Transport of Containerized Lithium Battery Energy Storage Systems was released in the Maritime Silk Road Central Legal District FTZ Pilot Zone on Sept 1.

During the release event, China's first specialized model contract focusing on the sea transportation of such systems was officially introduced.

The newly released model contract fills a critical gap in the maritime export of lithium battery energy storage systems by providing a unified and standardized contract text.

It further clarifies the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of all parties involved in the maritime transport chain of lithium batteries, providing clear guidance for contracting parties and reducing negotiation costs.

On this basis, the model contract also establishes multiple safeguard mechanisms covering technical specifications, emergency response, damage assessment and inspection, insurance claims, and dispute arbitration, effectively mitigating legal and operational risks throughout the transportation process.

Next, the Xiamen Lithium Battery Transport Contract will be promoted and implemented across the industry through the China Industrial Association of Power Sources and the China Shipowners' Association.

By facilitating collaboration between the industry and shipping sectors and continuously refining its terms based on practical experience, the contract aims to help establish a clear, collaborative, secure, and efficient maritime transport chain for lithium batteries.
