A batch of repaired medical device signal processing modules, worth approximately 3.5 million yuan ($501,781), was exported abroad from the Xiangyu Comprehensive Bonded Zone on Jan 8.
This shipment marks a major milestone for China's first medical device global bonded repair project, located in the Xiamen Free Trade Zone, bringing its cumulative import and export value to just over 10 million yuan.
Officially launched in October 2024 at Plexus Electronics (Xiamen) Co Ltd, a company within the Xiamen FTZ, the project marks a shift from repairing just self-produced equipment to servicing global devices, moving the company closer to the high-value-added end of the global industrial chain.
Through this initiative, the company can now conduct testing, analysis, repair, and inspection of equipment that it did not manufacture itself, integrating the entire industrial chain at lower costs while benefiting both technologically and economically.
Since importing its first ultrasound machine for repair, the company has overcome challenges such as declaration errors affecting export tax rebates, with support from multiple departments of the Xiamen FTZ and Xiamen Customs. The project now appears to be on a stable development path, having received repair orders from six countries including Singapore and Mexico, with a total of 1,212 medical devices imported for maintenance.
